The inscription on the front alludes to the piece being gifted in 1699 by Elizabeth Thornes, Wife of Sir Vincent Corbet 2nd Baronet (d1681). His father; Vincent Corbet 1st Baronet (1617-1656) of Moreton Corbet, Shropshire, to whom presumably this flagon originally belonged, was an English lawyer and politician who sat for Shropshire in the House of Commons in the Short Parliament of 1640.
