A monumental George III silver inkstand, makers mark J (pellet) P in oval probably for Joseph Preedy, London, 1802
The arms on one side are those of Fitzwilliam for William, 4th Earl Fitzwilliam (1748-1833), married in 1770 Lady Charlotte Ponsonby, 2nd daughter of William, 2nd Earl of Bessborough; he was Lord Lieutenant of Ireland in 1795.
The arms on the other side are those of Hatfield quartering Kaye with Wentworth in pretence. Augusta, sister and co-heiress of Frederick Thomas Wentworth, 3rd

Earl of Stratford, married in 1772 John Hatfield Kaye of Hatfield Hall, Yorks. She died in 1802 without issue, bequeathing her estate to Fredrick Vernon Wentworth of Wentworth Castle. It has been suggested that this inkstand, made the year of her death, was a bequest to William, 4th Earl Fitzwilliam, her distant cousin.
