A silver and silver-gilt centrepiece with three plique a jour enamel panels, representing a galleon under sail with Aphrodite swept up on the waves amidst stylised mermaids, on green onyx plinth upon carved hardwood pedestal.
Alexander Fisher presented this piece, perhaps the most spectacular documented example of his work, at the royal academy Summer Exhibition in 1900. It was purchased by Sir Thomas Gibson Carmichael for the sum of £1,450. Carmichael was a distinguished collector
