Charles Philip Slocombe is mentioned in the Barnard accounting lists of suppliers from 1857 when he was paid £16 1s 8d until 1872. He attended the School of Design at Somerset House where his talent won four prizes and this led to design work for the silk manufacturers Stone

and Kemp and the Lace manufacturer, Charlotte Treadwin who showed his designs at the Great Exhibition in 1851. At the International Exhibition of 1862 he showed 7 designs including three designs for centerpieces. He exhibited Paintings, etchings and engravings at the Royal Academy and became an Art Master at the Schools of Design at South Kensington. He became a Royal Academician and was a well known Victorian painter.
