William Bateman, was famous as the last great silversmith of the legendary Bateman Dynasty and was recognised by the most prolific retailer and manufacturing silversmiths of the Late Georgian and William IV period Rundell, Bridge and Rundell who appointed Bateman as their work-master in the early 1830's. Bateman made the

majority of the important silver for them in the following decade including services for King William IV.
